Dr. Lauren Rouse (they/them, xe/xir) is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Cook Family Writing Program. They teach ENG 282 (Writing and Speaking in Business) and DSGN 106 (Design Thinking and Communication). They have PhD in Texts and Technology from the University of Central Florida (2023). They also hold a Masters of Arts in English from DePaul University (2019), and a Bachelor’s of Science in Secondary Education from Indiana University Indianapolis (2017). Dr. Rouse’s research is situated at the intersections of fan and audience studies, media studies, and disability studies. Their work is interdisciplinary, and connects to the larger fields of critical platform studies, online labor, and race, gender, and sexuality studies. Dr. Rouse has been published in Popular Communication, Social Media + Society, and Transformative Works and Cultures and are currently developing a monograph that analyzes the hurt/comfort genre in fan fiction through the lens of disability theory.
